By pure chance we walked past the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery...

'Art from the New World showcases brand new work by 49 of the finest contemporary artists, under the curation of the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles.
The selected artists are part of an exciting new movement that encompasses all forms of media and art - painting, sculpture, printing, stencil, photography and digital art. The exhibition exposes an American art scene that is bold and provocative, with images expressing dark humor, a longing to reconnect with innocence and a fresh look at the 'ideals' of glamour and beauty'.

Among them; Dave Cooper, Shag, Camille Rose Garcia, Todd Schorr, Mark Ryden, Jason Shawn Alexander, Coop and Kent Williams.
It's delirious, delicious, weird and wonderful work, where underground becomes otherground and the lowbrow meets highbrow.
It will leave your brain all tingly.

If, like us, you've not seen this art outside Juxtapoz magazine, books or prints, and you live in, or near Bristol, you really REALLY shouldn't miss this opportunity.

You've got till the 22ND of August.

Infectious Reading

Since history lessons at junior school I've always loved woodcuts.

The expressionistic shapes and stark use of light and dark undoubtedly had an influence on the way i draw. I still look to them for inspiration, trying to bring that drama and immediacy to my art.

Suzanne knows me well...

A gift; The London Folio Society edition of Daniel Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year , beautifully illustrated by Peter Pendrey, a rare treat indeed.

Let me share...

The Voice From the Tomb

Over at the From the Tomb blog spot you'll find me in Deep Discussion with Decapitated Dan Royer.

Not that deep really, bit of a laff, but you'll still learn more than if you read my Wikipedia entry.

Cheers, Dan!

Hammer Wrap

Torn from the tomb to terrify the world, half bone, half bandage - MUMMIES!

I'd never drawn a mummy before, but I've popped that cherry 3 times... kinda glorified zombies with better table manners.

...and the glossy pouting glam among the dust and blood, the amazonic Valerie Leon.

Splendid films, splendid mag - Dick Klemensen's Little Shoppe of Horrors #24, on sale now.

Cover art for Channel Evil #2

Part way into pencilling the third issue, and so far it's a gas, what with dinosaurs, Jez spiralling into madness, blasphemous visions and a panoramic spread of the tortured damned writhing in the pits of hell.

And i get paid for this.

#2 is on hold. Some major re-thinking going on in the war room. I'll keep you posted.
Meantime...

Shain Erin's Morbid Art Dolls

'These are not comforting toys; they can be challenging and defiant, disturbing and enchanting, irrational and frightening, beautiful and sad. They have stories they yearn to tell, and they hold secrets they will never give up. I like to think of dolls as spirit vessels and the making of a doll a kind of offering or invitation. It’s always a collaboration between me and whatever spirit comes forward.'
And they are just beautiful...
